The Champions League quarter-finals started last night with another shock for Barcelona as they were hammered 3-0 by Juventus at Juventus Stadium.
It all started in the 7th minute when Paulo Dybala scored the opener from inside the penalty area into the bottom left corner of the goal. In the 22nd minute, he doubled Juventus’ lead, this time from a left footed shot.
In the second half, the third goal was added after Giorgio Chiellini headed the ball into the back of the net from a corner.
Barcelona weren’t able to break the Juventus defence despite dominating many stats including having more shots than Juventus, and a whopping 68% of possession.
Luis Enrique’s side had almost the exact same experience in the round of 16 when they were defeated 4-0 by PSG in the first leg before they came back at Camp Nou in the second leg to win 6-1, somehow launching them into the quarter finals.
Barcelona will have a lot of work to do if they are going to have any chance of coming back from behind in the second leg again.
This match was supposed to be accompanied by Borussia Dortmund playing Monaco at Signal Iduna Park but the match was postponed due to an explosion on the bus taking the Dortmund side to the ground. Defender and Spanish international Marc Bartra was injured by the explosion and was taken to hospital, therefore postponing the match. You can learn more about that on this post.
